What I’m Reading

What I'm Reading

Clearly there has been an unsuspected hault in posts these last couple weeks. Life has been full of go, go, go, but I love it that way. On Wednesday, I’ll share some of the things I’ve been up to instead of blogging. But for today – something else.

When I moved here, I already loved the idea of public transit and not having to drive around the city. In the last two months, I’ve come up with another reason to love it even more – so much time to read!

People who know me well, know that I absolutely love curling up with a good book on a lazy day, or getting caught up in a page turner that has me wanting to reach for it every moment. With such a busy day-to-day schedule though, it’s hard to muster up the energy a lot of the time later at night to reach for a book after checking other to-dos off my list.

Enter my daily bus rides to and from work – almost thirty minutes each way of uninterrupted book entertainment! (Side note – Haha, does that sound so nerdy?) Getting to read makes the bus ride feel so productive, especially when lots of traffic keeps it moving slower. Reading has also just been a nice mental break and time off a screen, since work requires me to be on the computer all day.

Last week, I finished a book I had waited a long time to get my hands on – Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins. I don’t want to give anything away, but it was a total psychological thriller and I recommend it. I love books with the mystery element. The story is told from the points of view of three different women, and moments are logged with different dates and times. It’s full of emotion, deceit, and suspense that has you wondering who can be trusted. Check it out.

What I'm Reading

I just started a new book I’m super excited about – The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. It’s actually based off a true tale that centers around Chicago, the 1893 World’s Fair it hosted, and the serial killer that caused terror there. A few girlfriends and I have deemed ourselves a book club and are trying to read this over the next month or so. Then we will chat about it over wine, of course!

What I'm Reading

What are some of you’re latest reads?? I’m always looking for new books to add to my list.

Thanks for sharing your post about reading and the book suggestions. My latest read was “When God Whispers Your Name” by Max Lucado. Since I’ve struggled to read for any long block of time, I read this book with mini devotionals. I had the book since 1999 and just read it for the second time. I’ve now passed it along to a friend to read next. Jaylene(grand daughter) and I started our own book club. We are reading a Dork Diaries book, and our first discussion was yesterday evening. Your post inspired me to do more reading, so I’m on the hunt for a book of my own. Thanks!

Wow, that sounds like a great read! Devotionals or short story books are so nice because you can feel productive and get a lot of them reading bit by bit! Love that you and Jaylene started a book club 🙂 xoxo
