spring florals

Happy spring, you guys! It’s still chilly here in Chicago, but we’re rolling with the spring vibes because it’s officially day two.

I can’t talk about this season without instantly thinking of spring florals. While I love being bundled up in sweaters and blanket scarves (um, thank you Chitown winds), finding a good printed go-to is helping this seasonal transition feel right.

A recent girls’ trip to New Orleans was the perfect occasion to debut this cute floral swing top I had just found at Old Navy. It honestly feels as easy-breezy as it looks.

Florals might feel over done around this time of year, but you know what? You can wear whatever you want, so you feel it, go for it!

Old Navy has tons of pretty new blouses to usher in spring – a couple of my other faves here and here. In other words, I think I’ll be back for more.

Other must-haves on my list for strutting into spring? A brand new pair of casual kicks! I love my white converse. I had to get rid of my old pair after the San Fran rain finished them off, but it was only a couple weeks before I had a new set on my feet.

White kicks are classic, converse our classic.  It’s a win, win!

The best thing about a girls’ trip? Your closet easily doubles, or in my case, quadrupled – and you get to borrow crazy, cool shades like these.

What are your favorite places to shop fresh looks? Any spring florals I need to get in my closet? Would love for you to share!

I remember being told having just a couple jackets in Chicago wouldn’t be enough, and I definitely believe that now. You actually need a palette of options for all the different weather combos.

Indecisive weather? Sounds a little like Texas.

Anyway, I have been set with my big puffer jacket this winter. Thankfully, it’s not that puffy, but I wanted a classy looking counterpart for trips or events. Not looking to sacrifice warmth, but still wanting to look good, ya know?

Cue this camel colored beauty from JCrew. The coat meets all the requirements! Like I said, being warm was my main concern, but this jacket is actually 80% wool blend – aka it will do the job.

It’s called the Stadium Wool Coat. The coat comes in a variety of colors, but i chose to get it in sandstone. Camel just sounds like a cuter color to me though, so I’m going with that.

The texture is so soft, and still feels reliable. I love the gorgeous stitching and the gold zipper adds pretty detail. It’s actually a double zipper. I recently was taught that it’s so you can pull the bottom one up when sitting to bring your coat around, so you don’t have to get it dirty. Amazing!

Still new to this whole winter thing, what can I say?

This reversible Nordstrom tote is the perfect work bag and transfers seamlessly into weekend errands. I can’t find the cranberry/cognac mix I have anymore, but two more beautiful options with this pretty brown found here.

Forever 21 booties were such a steal last fall. Similar here and here. Give me alll the boots.

Hope you’re staying cozy out there wherever you are, friends! What are some favorite fashion finds keeping you warm this season??

Two posts in one week, what what! Life is a little chaotic right now and that means I just gotta do the best I can – because not everything is going to get done all the time. Whether that be laundry, blogging, cleaning, etc. Anyone with me??

Even though life is chaotic, it’s also very, very exciting! 44 days left until Eric and I get married – eeeek!!! Now that we’re almost a month out, it seems like we’re at the turning point where we are bouncing around everywhere and talking about how time can’t go by fast enough.

Now, it’s just a matter of staying calm and making sure we’re ahead of the game in as much of the final stuff as possible – and continuing to freak out about just how dang close we are!

Aside from all this wedding shenanigans, here is a scoop of life Currently

{Cooking // More in general…}

Ok, well mostly I am being the chef’s (aka Eric’s) assistant. This guy is cookin’ up fresh salmon, cajun dishes, baked pasta, the list goes on…

This week though, I whipped up some of my own goodness. Granted nothing I make is the fanciest of dishes, but hey, everyone’s gotta start somewhere! How about some freshly seasoned chicken, veggies, and whole grain rotini pasta for ya??

{Wearing // Still summer clothes?}

I think everyone’s been a little weirded out that we’re almost to the end of September and we’re still hitting up the 80s every day. I think everyone is also trying not to complain. As much as I want fall here (it’s my favorite!), I know after fall comes winter…and winter can mean polar vortex here in Chicago.

For now though, we’re still rockin’ the shorts, tanks, and dresses! You might’ve caught this white Target maxi on Instagram yesterday. I found it on sale for $12.99 in the Junior’s section and it’s pretty much my favorite sale find ever!

It was the perfect wedding shower dress and now I’ll keep wearing it until the weather says no.

{Counting down // to a VACATION.}

As mentioned earlier, E & I are obviously beyond ecstatic about the wedding. Can it be November tomorrow? We are also sooo pumped for a real vacation and to be able to travel again!!

Without a doubt going home to Texas always makes us so happy, but this year we’ve missed exploring out of the country since we’ve saved up time and money for the big day. The morning after though, we’ll be jet setting off to Jamaica and we can’t freakin’ wait.

counting down

The wait will totally be worth it and much needed after all these busy months. I remember people having said they needed the honeymoon after all this wedding stuff, and I used to be like oh sure, but it’s probably been so fun, they’re probably exaggerating. And it is SO FUN (I’m going to miss it so much!!!), but it’s also just tiring and can feel like a lot.

So I get it now…you really do need the honeymoon. It’ll be a well-deserved getaway with my best friend to celebrate our next chapter as Mr. & Mrs. WAHOO!

And maybe most exciting of all?? We’ll get to add another pin to this pretty vintage market find. Ok, not most exciting, but it’s up there.

We did it again, made it to Friday, YAY. I don’t know about you guys, but this has been one long week with some big stuff  wrapping up at work! Those tail ends of projects are always so chaotic, but I’m staying positive because I know the end result is so rewarding.

Before jumping into this week’s Currently post…how cute are those Valentine’s cards that work had waiting on everyone’s desk this morning?? Happy early Valentine’s Day to you, your dogs, your friends, families, and S.O.s!

Okay – hope everyone has a great looooong weekend friends!

Sharing // Cheryl’s Valentine’s Treats

If you haven’t had a chance to try Cheryl’s cookies before, you’re missing out! I’m so lucky to have family friends back in Texas that send some of these my way year after year. This year’s box was full of Valentine’s Day buttercream iced cookies, in flavors from Devil’s Food Cake to Sugar to Raspberry Chocolate. There were so many – I loved being able to share a few with my work team as “Thank Yous” for all the help these last few weeks.

Wearing // NARS Lip Pencil

In addition to every sweater I own  to fight the “Feels like” negative temperatures this week, I’ve fallen in love with the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil that came with my Sephora birthday gift (one of the store rewards programs I actually love!). The lipstick meets lip pencil gives a rich color that goes on smooth. The birthday sample came with two –  a deep red called Cruella, and a rosy pink called Rikugien. I love the pink color, working my way up to being confident enough to wear that red…

Side note: This picture features a dark purple manicure I treated myself to this week, because I’m in love with the color. Way dark or totally nude are my go to nail looks.

Feeling // Thankful

If you’ve checked out my About page, I touch on how important my faith is to me. With all the changes and big events that have taken place in this last year, I am more reliant and trusting in God than ever before. He has showered me with blessings and opportunities, and even in times of hardship, I know in Him all things are good.
As I go further into 2016, my word has been Peace. I’m striving to focus my eyes on the peace that God places in my life and on my heart, even when there seem to be a thousand moving parts around me. It is for this love and stronghold my faith is constantly providing that I am feeling so thankful inside.

holiday markets chicago

One of my favorite things about Chicago is all the festivals and markets that always seem to be going on, especially during the summer. The great thing about the Christmas season though, is the Holiday edition of all the markets that come through the city! It’s so much fun to spend an afternoon speaking with local vendors and small business owners, and shopping handmade goods that make the cutest gifts.

In the past couple weeks, I’ve checked out the Renegade Craft Fair, the Christkindlmarket, and the Randolph Street Market. I ended up purchasing something at each, either for me or someone else…or both!

First up, the Renegade Craft Fair. This fair features the best and brightest in the DIY and Maker communities, and was the first of its kind when it originated in 2003. The Renegade Craft Fair travels across the country to several cities, and even makes it way to London.

My girlfriend, Ghada, and I had so much fun romping around for the afternoon. I walked away with a couple wall prints as gifts, some Lincoln Park post cards, and a dainty gold bar ring inscribed with “je t’aime,” or “I love you” in French. I originally had set out to purchase Christmas gifts only, but saw this and knew it was too perfect for me to leave behind – if you want to know why, you can find out here. 🙂

A week later, Eric and I visited the Christkindlmarket downtown after work. This annual Christmas fair turned twenty this December and is set up like a little German village, with vendors in timber housed shops. The fair is famous for its spiced wine that comes in a different souvenir mug each year.

We only ended up purchasing some of the delicious wine and a spinach, goat cheese stuffed pretzel, but have plans to return with guests in the coming week and make some purchases at the ornament house!

Lastly, I ventured off to Randolph Street Market this past weekend. I love this festival, check out the finds from my last visit if you haven’t yet! You do have to purchase a ticket to get in, but they are really cheap online – super cheap if you have a student ID, only $3! It’s a jackpot for antique lovers, but among those vendors are a variety of other unique shops.

Eric and I found several Christmas gifts, total score. My favorite vendor we came across though was a sweet girl selling beautiful, handmade wall decor made of stencils, wood, and windows. I wanted to walk away with all of them, but we ultimately decided on a piece that will look just perfect over Eric’s bar area – I’m happily posed with it below haha.

Hope everyone has been successful in their Holiday shopping – and you get a chance to check out these festivals in the future if you’re in town!
