game day denim

Happy Monday!

It feels like fall is finally in full swing up in Chicago, but it’s no surprise that recently our family back in Texas has still been hitting those higher temps! Needless to say, when we went home last weekend for the rivalry football game between Texas and Oklahoma, our suitcase consisted strictly of summer clothing.

So while I’m bundled up in the coziest cardigan right now, I still had to share this game day denim that was perfect for tailgating and fun at the Texas State Fair!

When I’m looking for an affordable wardrobe classic, my first attempt is usually at Forever 21. They somehow offer various versions of the same piece, letting my indecisive self know I explored my options.

Thankfully, I had quick luck with a denim skirt! While I couldn’t find my exact piece online, similar F21 styles are here (buttons half-way), here (bottom with fringe), and here (lighter denim).

Is anyone super pumped denim skirts are back?? Fun fact, I vividly remember my first real shopping trip in the woman’s section was at Old Navy. I bought one of these babies and thought I was the coolest chick around. Ha!

Seeing as it was 91 degrees this day, I aimed to keep things as light as possible with a white, flowy off-the-shoulder top from one of my favorite Austin boutiques, Longhorn Fashions. The boots are also a game day tradition, so how could I not?

I had to get the burnt orange touch in there with my Kendra Scott Goldstone Elle earrings. While I had my fair share of burnt orange clothes in Austin, it’s a harder color to track down in the midwest! That being said, I’m always a fan of neutrals for game day – I’ve just gotta add these beauties and I’m ready.

The next item I’ll be hunting for are some cute tights and booties so that I can transition this game day denim into the cooler weather!

Eric and I spent so much of this weekend watching college football (eek, it was a sad loss for UT) and Houston baseball (Astros headed to the World Series, yay!) – I love this time of year, you guys.

Where your favorite spots to shop for game day staples?

P.S. Thanks to E for the photos – being married to an awesome photographer has it’s perks! // Benavides Photography

Happy Friday, friends!

I don’t know about you, but I’m beyond ready for the weekend after what has been a crazzyyyy week. Eric’s parents are in town, and I’m really looking forward to some fun and relaxation around the city.

I can’t believe we’re over half way through August. I’ve been soaking up the sun as much as possible…people in Chicago keep saying summer is almost over, and I’m going to keep avoiding that thought for as long as I can…

So speaking of sun, summer, and lots of other warm things far from Chicago winter, a few weeks ago E and I explored the neighborhood of Logan Square. I knew this striped dress from Gap would be perfect for our afternoon date, it’s been a major go-to in my closet this season!

To step up the bold, I added a bright pink head wrap and red lips. I loved how when it all came together, I was kind of feelin’ some vintage fashion vibes.

How precious is this bow detail? The button up, sans collar, was also a big win in my book!

A friend recommended we check out the poppin’ patio at Park and Field, and it was easy to see why. This spot has the theme of a vintage sports club, complete with fire pits and bocce ball courts. I loved all of the whites and woods, it had such a clean and beautiful feel.

Plus, they were serving up frosé, so you know I was all about it.

Another sign we’ll keep this place on our list of favorites? They have a pop-up taco shop every Friday and Saturday – all of this deliciousness for $10. That elote was sooooo good, y’all. Throw in the a Ruby Red and you know we’re sold.

Tacos and Shiner – two things a couple of Texans are always happy to see!

We had such a great afternoon laughing away and seeing a new part of the city. Always thankful for new adventures with this sweet – and majorly talented I might add – husband of mine.

E took all these gorgeous photos, you can see more of his stuff here! If you’re in Chicago and in need of a photographer, he’s your guy.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

off the shoulder

It was toasty this past weekend, you guys! Well, at least by Chicago standards.

Not complaining though, because as much as I love fall and winter fashion, it feels good to show some skin and work on my tan! (I’ll forever be trying to beat my husband, Eric.)

I ran over to Old Navy last week for a workout top, and left with a few additional unplanned items –  including this fun off the shoulder piece!

I was immediately drawn to this one because of how bright and beautiful the color is. It’s definitely not a shade I owned, and I 100% needed it in my life (um, bonus it’s on sale for less than $15 right now, people).

To be honest, the florals had me feeling like I belonged in Barcelona or Hawaii instead of that Chicago dressing room…*sigh* note to self: book that beach trip I keep talking about.

If this color isn’t your favorite, have no fear! Old Navy had a whole wall of patterns, and I’ve rounded up a few other favorites I’ve come across below, because I think what really makes the look are the major summer vibes this style gives.

You can totally dress up off the shoulder tops with jeans and a cute pair of wedges, or wear it out and about for casual exploring with more laid back pieces. Same goes for dresses and rompers of this style!

I chose the latter this weekend, pairing my off the shoulder top with easy sandals (shout out Target’s shoe department, am I right?), old cut-offs (probably from a thrift store), and favorite cross body bag.

What are some of your summer style go-tos?? I want to hear!

In other news, E and I leave for Perú in just over a week, eeek! So while open toe booties are my ideal next purchase, I should probably hunt for the last of our packing list items instead…

Happy Wednesday, friends!

I thought we had turned a corner with the weather in Chicago, but the past weekend proved me wrong with all the rain and wind!

As we navigate the back and forth transition I’ve had a few staple pieces with me, the first being my favorite JCrew coat that’s perfect for those cooler days. It’s unfortunately out of stock now since the height of the winter season is over, but it comes back each year – so keep your eye out this fall!

Two more recent items I’ve picked up are not only stylish, but so functional – my new Nike Roshe kicks and a gorgeous phone case from SOFRANCISCO.

I’m always a fan of white, especially when it comes to casual shoes. I swear by my white converse, but was wanting for another relaxed look I could wear all spring and summer. Not only is the Roshe line so comfortable, it honestly just makes me feel instantly 10 times cooler than I am.

Now about this new phone case. I feel like a fresh case almost makes you feel like you got a new phone, right? Well, my scratched plastic one was on quite the downhill trajectory, so this classic looking beauty has me very happy.

You guys know I’m all about unique finds, so when SOFRANCISCO reached out to me about their pieces crafted from soft, hand-picked Italian leather I was definitely excited. Each case offers a different color block combination – isn’t the blue and cream combo cool?

I think the major reason this accessory is so special to me is because it’s the first item I have with my new monogram since marrying E last fall! I’ve already talked about how changing my last name on social was a surreal experience. It was kind of another crazy first seeing these three letters printed in person.

I love it.

SOF offers complimentary monogramming on any piece, which I really think makes the case a mark of pride or a meaningful gift.

Now I know we’re all like wow, super cute but like does it protect the goods?? The case is very lightweight, but feels very durable. My phone snaps in securely so I know I can look good, but feel good too – because let’s be real, phones aren’t cheap!

Now seems about a good time as any to share when the cool factor of my Nike kicks started getting to my head…

Happy Wednesday, friends! We’ve made it halfway through the week – now who else is counting down to tacos and margs for Cinco de Mayo??

How are we already over half way through April?? Time is flying by, and with Mother’s Day, graduations, and Father’s Day over the next couple months, we’ve got special celebrations coming up.

That’s why I’m so excited to have collaborated with JORD to bring you some unique gift inspiration, along with an easy to enter contest!

I’ve always loved watches. Not only do they serve as the perfect arm candy, but they’re a practical accessory to invest in! I’ve had a few pretty time pieces over the years, but never one made of 100% natural wood like this.

unique gift

As soon as I came across JORD’s wood watches, I knew there was some real art here. I had always worn a metal watch, and just knew I had to change it up with one of these special accessories.

From the beautiful packaging to the colorful faces, these watches bring a different flair from the moment you receive them.

Because I’m a fan of larger faces, selecting a piece from JORD’s Frankie series was an easy choice! How cool is that dark sandalwood and emerald face combo? A dreamy combo in my book.

For its first wear, I paired my watch with a casual white maxi to let it be the real star of the show, but it truly goes with everything! Another reason I love this statement piece so much – it stands out while fitting seamlessly with my wardrobe.

Earlier this month I had been thinking, what do I gift my sweet mama for Mother’s Day this year? What’s fitting for the most wonderful woman in the whole world? Once I had this JORD watch on my wrist, it hit me. She’s got nothing like this. Mom needs a piece as one-of-a-kind as her!

I’ve been combing through the women’s watches and just can’t decide yet – there are so many beautiful combinations.

And don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about dads! There’s actually something for everyone. Wait until you see all the styles in JORD’s men’s section.

This shop offers a variety of combos – from zebra, olive, and koa woods to rose gold, smoke, and midnight blue faces – how could you not come across the perfect fit for a loved one?
